Terms of service
Last updated: 3 September 2026
The agreement between you and Loved Stories when you make a book with us. We have tried to write it in plain English.
Who we are
Loved Stories is a small business based in the United Kingdom, selling personalised children's storybooks. You can reach us at hello@lovedstories.com, or by post at SIU Offices, 4-6 Greatorex Street, London E1 5NF, United Kingdom.
By using our site or ordering a book, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service.
What we make
You give us a few real memories and a photo of each person or pet you would like in the story. Our story wizard writes a personalised story and draws each character in our illustration style. You read the story and a free preview of the opening pages, then choose whether to buy it. Printed books are approved in full before they go to the printer.
Every book is made to order and personalised to you. Two formats are available: a digital edition delivered as a PDF, and a printed hardcover, which includes the digital edition at no extra cost. The hardcover is the only printed format we sell.
Previewing is free — you only pay when you decide
Writing your story, drawing your characters and illustrating your first four story pages costs nothing. You can read the story, see those pages and walk away without paying.
You pay only when you choose to order. The remaining illustrations are finished after checkout. For a printed book, you then approve the finished book before we send it to print. This matters legally as well as commercially: you see a real preview before paying, and you approve what is printed before it is made.
Your account
Your books are tied to the email address you use at checkout, and you can sign back in from the My books page to find them again. Keep your email account secure — anyone with access to it can reach your books.
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract to place an order.
The photos and memories you give us
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give us permission to use it for the sole purpose of making your book.
By uploading a photo, you confirm that you have the right to do so — that it is a photo of you, of someone who has agreed to appear in your book, or of a child in your care.
- Do not upload photos of people who have not agreed to appear, or of children who are not in your care.
- Do not upload anything unlawful, hateful, sexual, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Do not use the service to impersonate a real person or to create content about a public figure.
When we may refuse or cancel an order
We may decline to make a book, or cancel one already in progress, if it breaches the rules above, if we believe it is unlawful, or if we cannot produce it to a standard we are willing to put our name to. If we cancel an order you have already paid for, we refund you in full.
How the illustrations are made
Your characters and pages are drawn by an AI image model working from your photos, your written description and our illustration style. It is an interpretation, not a photographic likeness, and results vary between attempts — that is the nature of the medium.
Because of that, every character portrait and every page illustration can be redrawn a number of times, and you can look back through earlier versions and keep whichever you prefer. You can also edit any page's text. We ask you to approve the book before it is printed, so what you approve is what we produce.
Who owns the finished book
The story text and artwork created for your book are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use. You can read it, print it, gift it, and order more copies from us. You may not resell it, license it, or use it commercially without our written permission.
We keep ownership of the wizard itself, our illustration style, our prompts and our software. Nothing in these terms transfers those to you.
We may use anonymous, aggregated information about how books are made to improve the service. We do not use your family's photos, names or story to advertise Loved Stories without asking you first.
Prices and payment
The price you pay is the one shown at checkout, in your local currency, including any taxes that apply. Payment is taken by Shopify, our checkout and payments provider — we never see or store your card details.
Prices can change, but a change never affects an order you have already placed.
Delivery
The digital edition is available to download as soon as your book is finished, from the order-complete page and from My books. Your order confirmation email links you back to the book; it does not attach the file, because the remaining pages are still being illustrated when that email is sent.
Printed books are produced by our print partner in the region they ship to, then sent tracked. Estimated timings are shown on our Delivery page and at checkout. Those are estimates, not guarantees, and postal delays are outside our control — but see our Returns and refunds policy for what happens if a book is lost or arrives damaged.
Cancellations, returns and refunds
Because every book is personalised, the usual change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply — but you have a free preview before you pay, and we stand behind anything that arrives faulty, damaged or wrong. Our Returns and refunds policy sets this out in full and forms part of these terms.
If something goes wrong
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses — the service is sold for personal use.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
We try to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will always be available or uninterrupted.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it. The date at the top shows when this version took effect.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections in your own country.
If something has gone wrong, please email us first at hello@lovedstories.com. We would much rather fix it than argue about it.
